Last updated: 9 October 2026 (added a first vs second generation table, a K3 Plus version chart, 305 vs 349 advice and an FAQ)
The biggest change on the second-generation Dahon K3 Plus is the stem: the fixed 91 cm stem that folded outwards became an adjustable 86 to 96 cm stem that folds inwards. The front disc calliper and internal cables moved to the right, and the forks now leave room for 349 wheels. It suits riders who want a 16-inch, 9-speed disc-brake folder that the whole family can share.
Key points
- the official site (the official site) lists the K3 Plus 305 at 16 inches, 9-speed with disc brakes, 9.8 kg, a 100 kg maximum load and a rider height of 150 to 180 cm.
- We weighed both generations with pedals: 9.79 kg for the first, 9.83 kg for the second.
- The second-generation fork has room for 349 wheels; the 349 flat-weld version and the Mini 349 come with them fitted.
- Jollymap prices in October 2026: K3 Plus 305 HK$4,180, 349 flat-weld HK$4,580, Mini 349 HK$4,780.
This English version summarises our 2023 Cantonese video on the second-generation K3 Plus and Dahon's 40th Anniversary Mini 349.
What changed on the second-generation K3 Plus?
At a glance, not much. The second generation keeps the flat bar, foam grips, 9-speed trigger shifter, 55T chainring and 11-28T cassette. The changes are structural:
| Part | First generation | Second generation |
|---|---|---|
| Stem height | Fixed, 91 cm | Adjustable, 86 to 96 cm |
| Stem fold | Outwards | Inwards, for a smaller fold |
| Front disc calliper and cable exit | Left side | Right side |
| Fork clearance | Tight; a 349 wheel needed a new fork | Longer, with room for a 349 wheel |
| Rear clearance | 349 wheels may need narrower tyres | Room for wider tyres |
| Front mounting point | None | Added, for a bag or front rack |
| Cable guides | Cable ties | Metal rings |
| Weight (our scale, with pedals) | 9.79 kg | 9.83 kg |
Two details stood out for Jason. Many owners used to swap the fixed stem as soon as they bought the bike, he said in the video, so the adjustable stem answers a common request. He also singled out the metal cable rings: the old cable ties held the cables, and with enough use the cable could snap and stick out.
How much does the K3 Plus weigh?
The official site lists the 305 version at 9.8 kg without saying whether that includes pedals. On our scale the first generation weighed 9.79 kg and the second 9.83 kg, both with pedals; Jason called that "excellent" for a bike with this many changes. The 14-inch K3 is lighter at 7.9 kg without pedals, but it has 3 gears and a 75 kg limit; see Dahon K3 vs K3 Plus.
Should I choose 305 or 349 wheels?
Both are called 16-inch; the number is the rim's ISO diameter in millimetres, so 349 is the larger wheel. Pick the 305 if you want the lightest bike or plan to upgrade later. Pick a factory 349 version if you would rather not pay for new wheels, and accept a little more weight: The official site lists the 349 flat-weld version at about 10.44 kg and 72 × 39 × 63 cm folded. Dahon does not publish a folded size for the 305, so the two cannot be compared directly.
How is the Mini 349 different from the K3 Plus?
Dahon made the Mini 349 for its 40th anniversary. It has graffiti graphics and anniversary logos on the frame and rear triangle, and it ships with 349 wheels, saving the cost of an upgrade. Its fork is slightly longer again than the second-generation K3 Plus, leaving room for wider tyres on 349 rims. The official site has no Mini 349 page, so there is no official Hong Kong weight. Our shop page shows 9.82 kg, while the same page also quotes Dahon's global site archive (2024 model) at 10.33 kg. The two numbers differ and are to be confirmed by Jason.
